Homemade Fascia Blaster Alternative DIY & Review (November 2018)

Fascia blasting is a super powerful and effective tool for sculpturing your body. It will help you on every step along your journey to a good-looking body.

Regardless of either you’re trying to reduce your postpartum overhang belly, beat cellulite or to blast off last stubborn fat cells on your “almost” perfect six-pack, you will see results from blasting. You can see of the results from people with verified purchases HERE (not all positive but good in general).

About Fascia Blaster & Review

The creator of Fasciablasting is Ashley Black “Guru”. You can find everything on the topic on her website fasciablaster.com including fascia blaster reviews, as well as order the original fascia blaster and related products.

If you want to know my opinion about “does the fascia blaster really work”?

Yes it does.

But you can also check numerous videos on YouTube, including astonishing before and after photos.

I would not TOTALLY trust reviews from Amazon, as many of them are not from verified purchase and it all seems like a competitor’s paid campaign to discredit the product. As well as other fascia blaster scam claims and complaints that after some deeper research showed to be based on nothing.

N.B. I have no direct affiliation with Ashley Black or her products, just sharing my research on the topic of fascia rollers and their effectiveness before deciding if I want to try one.

But if you landed on this page on purpose, you know that fascia blaster is expensive (around 100$ with shipping and tax). If you can’t pay that price, but really want to be able to fascia blast. You have two cheaper alternatives:

  • To use fascia blasting technique with stick roller or/and octopus hand massagers, that are readily available for purchase, like this one or this one.
  • To make your own fat and connective tissue roller that will perform similarly to original and will cost at list 3 times less.

The second option seemed more attractive to me. So I started to search for ideas on how I can make my own fascia roller for cellulite.  And I can tell you, I was very pleased with the end result. Hopefully, you will be too.

How to make your own fascia roller (FasciaBlaster)

UPDATE: Recently I have it broken down a few times, so I have to get a new wooden rod.  At this point I would recommend just to purchase a real product (I did) because it is made of a good quality materials and it's not even close to being broken after 6 months of almost daily use. Just Get it here, it might be worth it at the end.

Supplies:

  • Wooden rod – I used handle from toilet plunger. I bought mine at Walmart for 3-4$. The closest thing I found on Amazon is this one. But to be sure that everything will fit perfectly, here’s measurements of my rod: Length – 18’’ (45.5cm), Diameter – 7/8’’ (2.2cm), Circumference – 2 3/4’’ (7cm)

I read that some people have used broom sticks for that purpose also successfully. But you will need to cut it to desired length. I find length anywhere between 18 and 20’’ to be optimal.

  • Three octopus hand massagers – I used theoctopus hand massagersse.  You won’t know the color of massagers until you receive them and the shipping is long, but it’s the cheapest option. Check other offers on these massager too as they change constantly.
  • Bicycle handlesBicycle handles (for kids bikes) – These handles fit my rod like they were created for it. Plus they come in many colors so you can choose your favorite or the one matching massagers you will get.
  • Fender washersFender washers 6 pcs. – for these octopus massagers 3/16’’x 1 ¼’’ fender washers are the perfect fit. You can buy them at any hardware store or online here, or you, probably, have them already.
  • Flat Flat screwsscrews 1 ½’’ and nuts – You need 3 flat screws and 3 nuts. I used screws that left from previous project, but I would say #6 screws like these should be a good fit for the purpose.

Equipment for Fasciablaster :

  • Power drill
  • Pencil
  • Ruler
  • Screwdriver
  • Wrench or pliers

How to assemble your fascia massager:

  • Remove rubber head from a plunger stick
  • Slip bike handles on the stick.
  • Unscrew heads from octopus massagers
  • Measure center of the stick and mark it with the pencil.
  • Position your massagers evenly on the stick with central one over your mark.
  • Mark the center points for two other octopuses. With 18’’ rod you will have your massagers overlap and positioned roughly 1-1 ½’’ from the end of rubber handles.
  • Drill holes in the plunger stick. The hole should be slightly larger than your screw size.
  • Insert screw into the fender washer, then into “belly” of the octopus, then another fender washer and insert this “sandwich” into the drilled hole. You can use a hammer (be gentle) to help the crew getting in to the hole.
  • Secure screw with a nut using your fingers. Tighten the nut by holding it with a wrench or pliers and using screw driver on the other side.
  • Voila, your personal fascia wonder stick is ready!

Here are somethings you need to be aware of:
    1. Ms. Black has no medical background. She holds not one professional license. It can’t even be confirmed she has a college degree. She is not a Scientist.
    2. Kathleen Stross is NOT a neuroscientist. She is a specialized Physical Therapist.
    3. Bart Jameson is an Athletic Trainer. My understanding is he only has a few years under his belt. Also, my understanding is an AT must work under supervision of a MD which he does not.
    4. The Fascia Blaster is REGISTERED with the FDA as a Class 1 device. Much like dental floss or treadmills. It is not a FDA approved device.
    5. Her study she loves to refer to is 100% BOGUS. In no way would it qualify as a clinical study or trial. Only 33 women completed the study. All were healthy (read the terms and conditions. It states this is for use by healthy individuals and use at your own risk). Several were personal friends. 1 actually works for her. Many had been blasting for months prior to the study. A casting call by an infomercial queen was put out to find the participants.
She refuses to publish the results. She refuses to allow the results to be reviewed by the medical community or anyone else.
    6. She states use will not affect hormones. Then she says it releases Irisin. See photo for what it does. Many women here are experiencing horrible hormonal issues. If you have been active on the Fasciablasters page you will see many women talk about changes in their periods. At 45 Ms. Black herself admits in a video that she is on HRT now.
    7. Most every comment concerning questions from women experiencing side effects is either never approved or deleted. The poster is then also blocked and deleted. Hence some of the deep hurt here.
    8. Many of the photos she uses are altered. Some have even come from plastic surgery websites. One set of photos is actually her. Those photos were taken just moments apart and altered to appear as if it was a transformation. She has been caught using the photos saying it is her and then saying it was someone else. She has even used a photo of a women that was 8 months pregnant as the before and then 4 or 5 months postpartum as the transformational after. Never stating the woman was pregnant in the photo.
    9. After many women came forward publicly about their injuries Ms. Black changed the Terms & Conditions. Those changes were made on May 22, 2017.
    10. In video(s) and a podcast(s) she refers to her then husband, now ex, Dari Samia as Dr.Dari. Dari had been a nurse but due to multiple DUIs had to relinquish his nursing credentials. He states he can get the license back if he wants it but that still leaves him as a nurse and NOT a doctor.
    11. The reviews on the Guru page are very skewed. Many woman, including myself, were blocked before ever being able to leave a review.
    12. I think it is noteworthy also that up until yesterday, 6/24/17, the business address listed on the Ashley Black Guru page was that of a day spa in Manhattan Beach. Yesterday that address was changed to the address of her attorney. He is her registered representative. Also, this company provides no customer service phone number. Customer service can only be reached via email. Frequently emails are not returned or it takes a week(s). Many times multiple emails must be sent for a response. I don’t know of a single multimillion dollar company that does not offer a customer service phone number. When questioned about this the response was we are working on it. It will take a few months.
    13. In an interview Ms. Black states she used saying the Fascia Blaster could eliminate cellulite to suck people in. Here is what she said, “I used cellulite as a way to suck people in. You can SELL people on cellulite, health not so much”. She continues to say twice she used cellulite to rope people in.

Thank you, Susie, for your comment. That’s a lot of valuable information. Since I wrote this post I changed my view of Ashley and her brand, but didn’t have a chance to update my post. However, I still use DIY fascia blaster and I still like it. Nevertheless, that’s true that people should be aware of possible negative effects and complication from blasting.

You can’t imagine how many people complaining about health changes… Yes, making money is important.
But It may be time to get together and file a class action lawsuit against this company and get all those facts out to the public.

Do you use yours just like the original?
    Has anyone else made one?

Yes, I use it in the similar way. From the people I directly know, I’m the only one. But I got the idea from an Amazon review and it had a picture, so I know that I’m not the only one who tried.

I ordered the octopus massagers, and I noticed that the heads of the octopus massagers are glued on. How did you get the heads off?

Just because Ashley Black says that she “used cellulite as a way to suck people in. You can SELL people on cellulite, health not so much”, it does not mean that it’s a load of crap. It simply means that people don’t want to do something simply because it can make them healthier. They need a “better” reason to try something such as getting rid of cellulite.

Were the octopus heads glued on? The ones I got are glued on pretty well.

Hi i have a question about this process. when you insert the screw into the belly of the octopus do you have to drill through it? isn’t there plastic preventing the screw from going through?

What are the differences of the real fascia blaster and the octopus legs? is the spacing similar? I just can’t bring myself to spend $90 on a product that I see people reselling all the time. I thought about trying to make my own before I saw your blog….this just made it easier, but I would like to know the comparison on spacing if you have tried the real fascia blaster.

I ordered the octopus massagers and I noticed that they are glued and not undetectable…how did you unscrew them without breaking them? It looks like they are detachable but they glued them together.

May I ask you for the directions on how you made your own blaster.

    Ladies!
So called “fascia blaster” and “mega stick” or any hard anti-cellulite
massage will mess up with your hormone level
in your body (may also mess up your periods).
Why and how? Fat cells produce and store estrogen hormones.
When you “disturb” fat this way, estrogen splashing out
of the fat cells to the blood stream in big portions
    with corresponding consequences.
This is what Ashley Black won’t tell you.
That’s simple fact – ask your OB-GYN doctor.
It doesn’t mean that you have to stop using this tool. But you should be aware about “side effects”.
It’s your choice in the end.
